Antiviral medicine

SHIVTAF is the brand name for tablets containing 25 mg of the antiviral medication Tenofovir Alafenamide. It is primarily prescribed to treat two conditions in adults and adolescents: chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection. Uses Hepatitis B: For chronic HBV infection, SHIVTAF is used to suppress the virus, which can prevent or slow liver damage. HIV-1: For HIV-1 infection, it is used in combination with other antiretroviral medications to reduce the viral load and improve immune system function. How it works Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) is a prodrug of tenofovir that is converted into its active form inside the body's cells. This active form prevents the virus from multiplying by blocking an enzyme, which effectively clears the infection. TAF is a newer formulation that is associated with improved renal and bone safety compared to the older tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF).
