Description

Eliquis (apixaban) 5 mg is a prescription anticoagulant, commonly known as a blood thinner, used to treat and prevent harmful blood clots. It belongs to a class of drugs called Factor Xa inhibitors, which work by blocking a specific protein (Factor Xa) necessary for the blood to clot. Primary Uses Stroke Prevention: Reduces the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AFib), an irregular heartbeat that can cause clots to form in the heart. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) & Pulmonary Embolism (PE): Used to treat existing clots in the legs (DVT) or lungs (PE) and to prevent them from recurring. Post-Surgery Prevention: Helps prevent DVT and PE in patients who have recently undergone hip or knee replacement surgery.
