Primary Medical Uses Constipation Relief: It is widely used to treat chronic or acute constipation by making stools softer and easier to pass. Hepatic Encephalopathy: It is used in patients with liver disease to reduce high levels of ammonia in the blood. It draws ammonia from the blood into the colon so it can be excreted, which helps improve mental clarity and reduce tremors or confusion. Stool Softening for Medical Reasons: It may be prescribed when soft stools are necessary to prevent straining, such as after anal surgery or for individuals with haemorrhoids (piles).
