Tenofoshiv-EM is a prescription medicine used to treat and prevent HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection. It belongs to a group of antiviral drugs known as antiretrovirals. It contains two active ingredients: Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (300 mg) and Emtricitabine (200 mg). Primary Uses HIV-1 Treatment: Doctors prescribe it alongside other HIV medicines to manage HIV-1 infection in adults and teenagers. It stops the virus from multiplying, which helps lower the viral load and boosts the immune system's white blood cells (CD4 cells). It is important to know that this medicine does not cure HIV or AIDS, but it helps you live a longer, healthier life. HIV-1 Prevention (PrEP): It is used as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). People who do not have HIV but are at a high risk of getting it can take this daily to reduce their chances of catching the virus through sex.
