Dutasmart 0.5 mg tablets (containing the active ingredient Dutasteride) are primarily used to treat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), also known as noncancerous prostate gland enlargement, and are commonly prescribed off-label to treat male-pattern hair loss (Androgenetic Alopecia). Dutasteride belongs to a class of medications called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It works by blocking the 5-alpha reductase enzyme, preventing the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
